Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church. [Catechism of the Catholic church, ¶1407]

  • Typically children in 1st grade begin to prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
  • Older children who have not celebrated these two sacraments also need to register to “catch up”.
  • The majority of the formal preparation for these sacraments take place during religion class either at St. Ann School or through our Family of Faith  program.  This Fall there will be classes on 3 Sunday mornings a month from 9:40 – 10:50 AM for children and parents. (Classes are also offered in both Spanish and English)
  • Families need to be registered by July 31st.
  • Your child’s Baptism certificate needs to be turned in with registration. If your child was baptized at Annunciation of the Lord we will check our record book. If it is recorded that is sufficient; if not, we will need a copy of the certificate.

Sacramental Preparation for Confirmation

Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seals and confirms the baptized in union with Christ and calls them to greater participation in the worship and apostolic life of the Church. Confirmation invites us into a deeper stewardship relationship to Christ and responsibility in participation in the mission of Christ and His Church. [US Catholic Catechism for Adults] We prepare students in 8th – 11th grades for the sacrament of Confirmation. The Bishop is the official minister of the Holy Spirit and will attend a special Mass for these young people where they receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. This is a two year program.

To participate in this preparation program, youth and their families must have completed a year of Family of Faith and then register for 2nd year Confirmation:
